Mutandis opens its new 40,000sqm detergents, personal care and soft drinks factory

Mar 25, 2024

Moroccan FMCG manufacturer Mutandis has opened a new factory at its site in Berrechid, 40km from Casablanca. The new factory complex costs MAD285m ($28.3m) and covers 40,000sqm. The factory will manufacture three types of products: body washes, liquid detergents and soft drinks.

For cosmetics, annual production will be 4,000 tonnes and include shower gel, shampoo and moisturisers.

For liquid detergents, annual production capacity will be 100,000 tonnes and the factory will produce bleach, surface cleaners, laundry detergent and washing up liquid.

For soft drinks, the factory will produce fruit juice in PET and Tetra Pak as well as carbonated soft drinks. Annual production capacity is 120,000 tonnes.

In July 2023, we reported that Unilever was closing its factory in Morocco, which it first opened in 1962. According to Moroccan media, it will stop producing laundry detergents and stock cubes in Morocco. As such, the new Mutandis factory represents a shift in balance from multinational to domestic manufacturers that we also see in other sectors such as chocolate and snacks.

In detergents, Mutandis is one of the two leading Moroccan players and its brands are Maxi’s (value for money) and Magix (low price). In juices, Mutandis owns the Marrakech brand and has a factory located in Kénitra, 40 km from Rabat. The company also produces canned fish products.
