Majid Al Futtaim set to open 3 new Carrefour supermarkets in Mombasa

Oct 5, 2020

Carrefour MAF
Majid Al Futtaim, which operates the Carrefour franchise in East Africa and the Middle East, has announced plans to open three new stores in Mombasa, Kenya. The new store openings will see Carrefour’s store network rise to 11 in Kenya.

The first two stores will open in November 2020:

  • City Mall, Nyali – 2,150m²; this store will have an in-store bakery as well as a large non-food section
  • Diani Centre Point Plaza – 1,800m²

Both stores will stock more than 20,000 SKUs, according to Majid Al Futtaim

A third store will also be launched in Shanzu Mall, which is due to be completed by 2023.

The expansion comes as rival Shoprite has announced its exit from Kenya. The retailer was previously the anchor tenant at the City Mall, Nyali. It opened the store in August 2019 and closed it a year later.
