Supermarket chain Pick n Pay is partnering with Mastercard and South Africa non-profit organisation FoodFoward SA to donate meals to South Africans in need.
Every time a customer makes a purchase at Pick n Pay between 7th May and 20th July 2018 using the Tap & Go contactless payment option, Mastercard will automatically donate a meal to FoodForward SA at no extra cost to the customer.
Pick n Pay deputy CEO Richard van Rensburg says this collaboration “will make a huge difference to thousands of poor and vulnerable families across the country.”
Pick n Pay was founded in 1967 in South Africa and now has a network of over 1,500 stores across southern Africa. It was the first major retail in South Africa to introduce contactless payment technology in late 2016.
FoodForward SA was established in 2009 to collect surplus food from the retail supply chain and redistribute it to people in need. Last year it supplied 520,000 meals and hopes to distribute 1.2 million meals this year through the partnership with Mastercard and Pick n Pay.
