A new retailer was legally constituted last month in Lomé, Togo, under the name of Confrat SARL. According to legal filing, the new company will engage in the “import and export of general groceries: sugar, rice, oils, pasta, wheat, meat, etc., and (…) the wholesale, semi-wholesale and retail, trade in general.”
It is still not clear who the shareholders are or what their plans are for the new company in terms of retail. Currently, Togo’s retail landscape is dominated by French retailer Casino, under the Leader Price brand and by the Togolese company Ramco SA, which operates 6 large supermarkets.
