Boxer Superstores, Pick n Pay’s cash and carry/discount format, is opening its fourth store in Swaziland, in Nhlangano. There are three existing stores in Pigg’s Peak, Manzini and Simunye. Boxer superstores target less wealthy consumers through to emerging middle class consumers. They typically purchase fruit and vegetables from local farmers and seek to position themselves as a local, community-led partner.
The new opening will put additional pressure on local independent retailers, even if it pleases consumers.
