RC (Royal Crown) Cola has started bottling operations in Nigeria. The company’s new site is in Agbara, Ogun State, which is also home to a number of multinational manufacturers including Unilever and GSK.

The company’s Nigerian plant has capacity for 35,000 bottles per hour, but the site has the ability to scale up to 90,000 bottles per hour. Nigeria is the company’s 65th international market.
RC Cola used to be a significant, if minor, cola player in the United States with a 10% market share in the 1960s. In the 1970s and 1980s the company cut advertising spend and saw its market share plummet, turning the cola market into a two way battle between Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
In 2000, Cadbury-Schweppes bought the brand and moved it into its Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. In 2001, all international RC Cola business was sold to Canadian beverage company Cott Beverages.
