Shoprite Angola is building a new store in Mbanza Kongo, in the Zaire province. The new outlet will expand Shoprite’s network in Angola and strengthens the retailer’s commitment to the country in the context of investments to grow in multiple other Angolan provinces.
Shoprite Angola is expanding in Zaire province, due to open later 2018. The new outlet, which is already under construction, will not be the first store in Zaire but it will introduce the retailer to the capital northwestern province. Shoprite first opened a store in the coastal oil-producing city of Soyo.
The investment in Zaire is made in the context of a wider expansion commitment Shoprite made last year in Angola. This expects the retailer’s store network in Luanda, Benguela, Huíla, Cabinda, Bié, Lunda Sul, Cuanza Sul, Huambo and Namibe, in addition to stores already opened this year. Shoprite has been expanding not only in Angola but in multiple countries across Africa. Most significantly, after the demise of market leader Nakumatt, Shoprite is preparing a big entry in Kenya, with at least seven stores already announced this year.
According to Trendtype’s Retail Database Tracker, with the new Zaire outlet, Shoprite Angola will increase its network of stores to 32, since it first opened in 2003.
