VC firm Kibo Capital Partners has acquired a stake in leading Mozambican distributor Tropigalia for an undisclosed sum
Africa-focused VC firm Kibo has taken a stake in Mozambican food and non-food FMCG distributor Tropigalia for an undisclosed sum. Tropigalia, which was founded in 2004, distributes brands for Colgate-Palmolive, Pioneer Foods, Dr. Oetker, Milaneza, Bavaria and Bicafé. It also has its own private label product line under the Gourmet brand, which comprises hundreds of food products. Altogether, the company claims to distribute more than 3,000 SKUs.
Kibo’s investment will be used to fund growth initiatives, including recruitment of blue chip brands, launching new Gourmet brand product lines and growing its distribution network. Tropigalia’s distribution is based around hubs in Maputo, Beira and Nampula. It covers both traditional and modern channels. Tropigalia currently has just under 400 employees.
