Spar is set to open its 11th store in the new Enugu Mall in Enugu. The Artee Group, which holds the Spar franchise in Nigeria, is building the new mall. Originally scheduled to open in Q4 2016, it will now open in August 2017.
The Enugu Mall will be the Artee Group’s third mall in Nigeria. The Artee Group opened the 16,000m² Port Harcourt Mall in 2014, which features a Spar hypermarket. It also operates the Calabar Mall, which opened in 2016 and has a 5,000m² Spar hypermarket.
Spar’s new hypermarket will compete with Shoprite and Game, which have been tenants of The Persianas Group’s Polo Park Mall in Enugu since it opened in 2011. The two malls are 6km apart by road.
