Construction phase 4 has started for Wernhil Park Mall in Windhoek, Broll Namibia has announced.

Wernhil Park Mall first opened in August 1990 as Namibia’s first shopping mall. At the time, it boasted 54 stores along 18,000m². The first expansion happened in 2007 and was followed four years later by a further $600 million development attracting, at the time, 1,2 million visitors every month making it the most-visited shopping mall in the country. Today, the mall already has a total retail floorspace of 35,000m² and seventy-five stores, including anchor tenant Pick n Pay, Zimbabwean Edgar’s, Woolworth and Truworths, among others.

After the new expansion is complete, the upgraded shopping centre will have more than 55,000m² of retail space and is expected to compete with other regional malls, outside Windhoek’s developing retail landscape. The southern section of the project, which represents the bulk of this phase, includes the retail shops, a parking lot and a connection to the already existing Cashbuild and Fruit & Veg sites. According to the existing plans, this should be complete and operating by the 1st of June 2018. The entire Wernhil Park development should be fully complete by mid 2019 with a total cost of $40 million.
