Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi has yesterday officially opened a new shopping mall in Pemba, a city in the northeastern province of the country, Cabo Delgado.

The new 3500m² mall is a $20 million American and South African private investment channelled through the Trade Hold Africa and Atterbury groups. Among the investors is South African retailer Shoprite which will be the anchor tenant in the mall.

This is Shoprite’s 17th outlet in Mozambique and it will employ 120 people. According to Absolomo Simba, Shoprite’s manager in Mozambique, the retailer still has plans to open five more stores in the country by the end of the year.
