French supermarket retailer Carrefour has opened a new store in Cocody, Côte d’Ivoire. The new store, a Carrefour Market store is slightly smaller than the Carrefour Hypermarket that opened late 2015. Carrefour Market stores are usually between 500-1000 m².

The outlet is located in the new PlaYce Palmeraie, a 15000m² shopping mall built as a joint venture between Carrefour and French group CFAO. The venture, agreed on in 2013, is in the process of launching a network of shopping malls not only in Côte d’Ivoire but across 7 other countries in West and Central Africa.

New malls are planned in The Congo, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal. All of the malls will have Carrefour outlets as their anchor stores. With this expansion, Carrefour will extend its African footprint to 206 stores until 2025, according to Trendtype’s retail database tracker.
