Choppies

On May 29th Choppies officially opened its first store in Mozambique, in the Mall de Tete, in Tete Province. Choppies has long been reported as wanting to open stores in Mozambique, having already expanded from its Botswana base into South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The retailer has announced its intention to expand its total store network to 250 by 2018. In August 2016 RDC Properties Limited, a Mozambican property developer, announced it had signed tenant lease agreements with Choppies in Zimpeto (Maputo) and Xai Xai.

The Mall de Tete is currently the largest shopping centre in the province. The mall is owned by Mara Delta and was built by South African group McCormick Property Development. It has 27 stores, including a Shoprite supermarket, a branch of fashion store PEP and a branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
