Freetown Farmer's Market

A farmer’s market has been launched in Freetown, Sierra Leone, organized by the Nianda Trading Company. The market showcased fresh products produced by farmers from across the entire country and is mainly intended to cater to consumers who shop at supermarkets like Choithram’s and Monoprix and who, according to the event’s organizers, would not be able to find such fresh products in these outlets.

Nianda plans to organize the market every month and make it a recognized retail platform for farmers to expose their products not only to direct consumers but also to restaurants and hotels. A number of retail farmers associations have participated in the event and, for some, this “was the first opportunity to showcase their products to consumers”.
