Shoprite has opened its 23rd supermarket in Nigeria. The new store is located in The Persianas Group’s Palms Ota Mall in Ojokoro, Sango Ota – north of Lagos.

Shoprite already operates stores in four other Palms Malls: in Lekki (Lagos), Ibadan, Enugu and Ilorin. The Persianas Group also has a retail arm that owns the franchise for Hugo Boss, Puma and Lacoste in Nigeria.

The Ota Mall is on the Ogun and Lagos State border and is expected to serve a population of 5m consumers. However, the mall has initially struggled to find tenants, as retailers have been reluctant to open stores in what is still a biting recession.
