Shoprite has expanded its presence in Lesotho with a new supermarket in the highland city of Mokhotlong, to the east of the country. The city has several mining operations and is about to see the second phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, and with it the construction of the Polihali Dam.
Shoprite entered Lesotho in 1997. It has seven outlets in the capital Maseru, and prior to this opening had three more in the rest of the country. The company has said it will seek to bring its MediRite, Hungry Lion, OK Furniture and Liquor Shop retail brands to the city in due course.
