Choithrams opens its fourth and largest supermarket in Sierra Leone. The new 560m² store is in Wellington, east of Freetown.
T. Choithram & Sons, the West African distribution conglomerate, has opened its fourth supermarket in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The new store, which is in the Wellington area east of Freetown, has 560m² of retail space and has parking capacity for 50 vehicles. The company claims it is the largest supermarket in the country. The new supermarket will open up access to modern grocery retail for residents east of Freetown.
Choithrams has two supermarkets in the central business district of Freetown – the first supermarket in opened was on Kroo Town Road in 1944 and its second store opened at Rawdon Street. Its third supermarket is in Kenema City, the largest city in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone.
The company also operates small supermarket networks in Cameroon, Guinea and Liberia. In 1974, Choithrams expanded into the United Arab Emirates, where it is a major player in the grocery retail sector and operates 41 modern supermarkets. Choithrams also owns the large NATCO cash and carry in London, UK and distributes across West Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
