How youthful will youthful consumers in Africa be?

Africa youth

When we talk about the youth of many consumer markets in Africa, it is worth stressing how youthful they are going to be. More than 50% of the DRC’s population is younger than 20 years old. More than 80% of its population is under 40 years old.

In 2050, three quarters of the population in the DRC will still be under 40 years of age.

To put this in context, the median age of the population in DRC will only reach just over 23 years old in 2050. The average for the whole of Africa will be barely older – less than 25 years old.

In the US, the median age will be more than 40 years old in 2050. In China it will be more than 45 years old, and in Japan it will be more than 50 years old.
